AU Background:
For frame of reference, Miki is a mentioned and unseen character in the original Persona 3 universe because she's. Well. Dead. She died in a fire that engulfed the orphanage that housed her, Akihiko Sanada (her elder brother), and Shinjiro Aragaki. The only canonical information we're given about Miki is that she was kind, and she was a woman.
In this universe, it's not Miki that died, but Akihiko.
Miki for all intents and purposes replaces Akihiko in Persona 3's storyline. After Akihiko's death, Miki grew a bit tougher and became obsessed with strength. After the fire, she got adopted by a family who had intended to marry her to their son. For that period of her life, Miki forced herself to become stronger by training in a variety of martial arts and taking up more "masculine" hobbies, such as motorcycles, in order to become more independent. It was in junior high when Mitsuru Kirijo approached Miki about her "potential", and that is when Miki joined SEES to fight Shadows. In this universe it was Miki who helped maintain Mitsuru's motorcycle.
Her relationship with Shinjiro Aragaki is also drastically different compared to Akihiko's relationship with him. Rather than competing with him, they became close as a brother and sister after what had happened in the orphanage, and Shinjiro went out of his way to take care of her by doing the cooking and such as Miki focused on other hobbies. There is definitely a side of themselves that they only show to each other, and while it may have crossed Miki's mind to cross over into romance, it never did out of fear of losing what they had.
Also, Shinjiro never killed Ken Amada's mother, and did not leave SEES at that juncture. As a result, Ken Amada basically doesn't exist in her universe. Shortly before the events of the game, Shinjiro leaves after experiencing the side effects of having a Persona forcibly awoken. This puts a strain on their relationship, obviously.
During the night of the Protagonist's Awakening, Miki did not get injured (mostly due to the differences in her tactics and personality when compared to Akihiko) and joins the Protagonist on the first night in the Tartarus. Being the same year as the Protagonist (and Yukari and Junpei) she develops a somewhat closer relationship with him, though still acts aloof.
Natsuki Moriyama is also acquaintances with Miki, although they run in different crowds. The main reason why Natsuki knows of Miki is because Natsuki had a crush on the son of the family that adopted Miki, and was jealous of Miki because of that. Instead of the whole situation with Ken and Shinjiro, Natsuki uses Strega's Revenge Website to off Miki - when that failed, during the Dark Hour Natsuki's Persona, Helen, was forcibly awoken and fought as a boss. After she's defeated, Natsuki's memories of the Dark Hour were wiped and her Persona sealed, where Miki got the idea to wipe Shinjiro's memories and let him live a normal life. The situation between Junpei and Chidori only served to reinforce this idea. This happens on Christmas Eve. Shinjiro is hospitalized for the rest of the game. These events are further detailed below in the Personality section.
Eventually, through the events of her Social Link, Miki managed to call off this arrangement by challenging their son to a duel - by winning, she cut ties off from the family, retained her original family name of Sanada, and was unofficially adopted by the Kirijo family. This also mends the relationship between Miki and Natsuki. While they don't become as good of friends as Natsuki and Fuuka, Miki becomes a bit more open with her before Natsuki's moves and encourages her to confess her feelings to her crush.
One of the bigger events before the Fall in her world was the awakening of her Ultimate Persona,
Miki cannot enter a romantic relationship with the Protagonist, so they never do the bang-boom.
At this point in time, Miki has graduated high school and worked toward becoming a police officer. She can usually be seen hanging with Officer Kurosawa.
Oh, and the MC's name in her universe is Jiryo Kizuchimo
Personality:
Outwardly, Miki is much like her brother is in canon - cool, aloof, and apparently on a completely different level than everybody else. If Mitsuru can be considered the Ice Queen who you have to max out academics in order to get her to notice you, Miki is the Wild Wolf who you'd have to max out your athletics and courage before she can respect you. Much like her brother, Miki drinks protein, works out like a fiend, and is obsessed with training (on the surface - she's actually adjusted well enough to having a few other hobbies). In keeping up with her tougher image, Miki refuses to wear the female uniform and instead wears the boys' uniform, citing it's "easier to move around in". As you could probably guess, the teachers don't like putting up with her, but her coach twisted a few arms as Miki won a nationwide tournament the year before.
That's where the similarities with Akihiko practically end, however. Miki doesn't take herself too seriously, and while she has several acquaintances, the friendships that she holds close are definitely the ones that count. She also has a bit of a sardonic wit - she will often comment that bad things will only get worse, but nobody takes those comments seriously. Which is unfortunate, because they almost always tend to be true. Miki tends to be a "realist" (a nicer way to say "pessimist") about occurrences in life, and had a bit of a fatalistic world view.
As masculine as Miki may appear, she isn't uncomfortable with her femininity. During holidays and special occasions she will dress in more feminine outfits, and doesn't get flustered when men approach her. However, Miki shows no interest in romance at this junction in her life. This is mostly because she's selfish, and she knows it - if she allows herself to care about someone enough to fall in love, she'll "ruin" that person because she'll want them all to herself. She knows this, which is why she refuses to let herself fall in love.
This can also be reflected in how her story with Shinjiro ultimately ends up. Shinjiro was suffering because of his Persona, and Miki took it upon herself to find a way to erase his memories and Persona so that he wouldn't have to become reliant on Persona Suppressants and be able to live a normal life. This was ultimately achieved by a special experimental pill, which Miki ground up and fed to Shinjiro with a meal that she (somehow) cooked. Miki took the burden on herself without talking about it with Shinjiro, as if he didn't have a choice. Most of the party didn't approve of Miki's actions, and she makes no apologies for it. Shinjiro was hospitalized for a while, and after the aversion of the Fall Miki finds a place to live with him so that she can take care of him until he was able to go on his own. During The Answer, Miki mentions that Shinjiro had already moved on, and that they keep in regular contact. The reason she was involved in The Answer was one of her routine visits, as well as helping Mitsuru organize the move.
With Mitsuru, Miki shares a bit of a sisterhood with. Being the first members of SEES, they became comrades who trust each other completely on the battlefield. They tend to go shopping together and such - as a consequence, Mitsuru isn't nearly as "socially naive" as she was in canon as she already had a friend to teach her how to eat ramen. However, there's still a wall - the Protagonist still had to be the one to intervene in Mitsuru's arranged marriage, as Mitsuru didn't feel that Miki would understand the situation given Miki's own situation.
Regarding Junpei and Yukari, Miki didn't really have a close connection with either. Occasionally Miki would play videogames with Junpei or play the electric bass to his electric guitar - they could be considered superficial bros, as Miki helped him on Operation Babe Hunt and actually managed to get a girl to hold a conversation with him. It basically went along the lines of "look, between you and me, you wouldn't want to hang around too long with this guy. But this is a vacation, and you want to have fun, and Junpei is fun. So just give him a couple of minutes and you just may not regret it." With Yukari, however, there never is any real relationship given how much of a tough time Yukari tends to have relating with other female characters. Miki also doesn't think either way regarding Aigis.
With Fuuka, however, the two share a mutual respect. Given that their common link is Natsuki, the two worked together to finding an experimental antidote for Forced Personas.
Miki tends to go out running with Koromaru.
Regarding the Main Character, Miki definitely has respect for him. However, Miki was not helpless without the MC's help in her life, and while she respected that he listened to her, she doesn't necessarily worship the ground he stands upon. Out of all of the characters during the Answer, Miki was probably the one who honored MC's wishes the best given her fatalistic view, thinking his sacrifice necessary and wouldn't want it to be in vain.
If one had to shoehorn a label onto Miki, it would be the "deadpan snarker" - Miki has a rather sarcastic attitude about things in general and tends to act rather jaded when confronted with new information, and give people a line-face when they act surprised at something new. Not exactly like fourth-walling, Miki tends to make comments predicting the worst and they tend to come true, with nobody seemingly recalling that Miki, in fact, called it. At the very least, it added some colorful commentary to the adventure without actually changing the main story. It does make Miki somewhat closed off and resentful that nobody's paying attention to the obvious, but she gets over it pretty quickly. (It's also a handy reference to her initial Persona, Clytemnestra - the woman who was cursed to give accurate prophecies, but nobody would believe her.)
That's not to say that Miki is incapable of fun, however. She's no stranger to the video arcade or a karaoke box when she's taking a break from training. As a student, she's decidingly average - her grades aren't as exemplary as Mitsuru's, but they aren't as abysmal as Junpei's. Miki dabbled in all sports at some point in her life, but her true passion is martial arts. Her other hobbies include Japanese calligraphy, sewing, and Korean dramas and music.
When it comes down to it, Miki is someone who can be described as someone who cares too much to the point of taking all of the burden on herself. She sealed off Shinjiro's memories and Persona without any input from him, because she thought she knew what was best for him. Out of all of the SEES members, Miki did not feel regret for what the MC did to prevent Nyx and Erebus from making contact, because she knows she would have done the same thing and she has nothing but respect for him. It's definitely a character flaw, and she never had to own up to it or change herself. Her Social Link was about changing her own future instead of just letting it happen, and Miki sometimes takes this to the point of taking control without involving anybody else. It may get worse when she finds out that every familiar face in the Tower won't recognize her.
Unlike her brother, Miki is right handed. The way she uses her Evoker is by holding it underneath her chin. Her Arcana is of the High Priestess.
Abilities:
Miki's hobbies include martial arts, Japanese calligraphy, sewing, and watching Korean dramas and listening to Korean music. Obviously in the tower the most pertinent of these would be martials arts and sewing. While Miki isn't exactly into fashion, she does enjoy putting together new outfits and fixing up old ones - she's been known to be notoriously cheap when it came to clothes, so when a jacket was torn from fighting she'd rather patch it up than buy a new one.
As a fighter, Miki is not above fighting a bit dirty - plenty of her skills involve feints, incapacitating her opponents through use of traps, and using her surroundings to give her an upper edge. Given her smaller size than Akihiko and the difficulty in building bulging muscles, Miki has to use different tactics and focuses more on status ailments and tricks rather than raw damage. While she does use her fists, she also holds butterfly knives as a backup in battle to be used as combination attacks in conjunction with other characters.
Miki's Arcana is the High Priestess, and her Persona is Clytemnestra. Her Ultimate Persona is Diana. Clytemnestra focuses more on slash attacks and electric skills. Diana eventually learns more piercing skills, continuing the electric skill tree, and adds in some healing abilities as well. This makes Miki a versatile physical attacker, as her default physical attack is of the strike property, and her Personas learn slash and pierce attacks. While Miki does learn electric arts, you can't count on her to dish out major damage with it - it's there to be handy when an opponent has a weakness to lightning, thus staggering them. She is by no means a primary healer but does a good job of maintenance when needed.
